How You Can Recognize Skin Cancer Warning Signs
Americans have grown over time to be more aware about the possibility of getting skin cancer. People are concerned about damage being done to their skin cells from being exposed too much to the sun. This is why so many preach about wearing sunscreen while out in the sun, or use self-tanners to help with skin cancer prevention. While much is known about what people can do to prevent skin cancer, not so much is known about what can be done for those who already have experienced too much exposure to the sun.
Asymmetrical Moles
If you ever notice that one of your moles is asymmetrical, this is a clear warning sign for skin cancer. This change will be fairly obvious, as one half of a mole will be different than the other half. Another skin cancer warning sign to look out for are moles that don’t have a distinct border, or one that appears to be very ragged or irregular.
If you see a mole that has multiple colors, this is another skin cancer warning sign. Again, this is usually very noticeable so their shouldn’t be much trouble identifying it unless it’s on a part of your body that is hard to see. This is why it’s important to check around your body every so often, otherwise you could have a warning sign but not be able to see it.
Also look out for moles on your skin that appear bigger than normal. If the mole is larger in diameter than say a typical pencil eraser, then you should probably take this seriously.
Take A Cautious Approach
Essentially, if you notice anything out of the ordinary with moles on your body, then it shouldn’t be ignored. Even if you aren’t sure, it’s better to see a dermatologist and have it checked out as opposed to ignoring it hoping that there’s nothing wrong.
A dermatologist will have you undergo a biopsy, which consists of taking a part of the mole and evaluating it. The fact is that Americans suffer from skin cancer than any other type, so knowing about all the skin cancer warning signs will help you be able to pick up on the skin cancer in its early stages so it can be effectively treated.
In addition to learning all the skin cancer warning signs, it also helps to know more about the three most prevalent kinds of skin cancer. These include Melanoma, Squamos Cell Carcinoma, and Basal Cell Carcinoma. You will begin to notice signs when cells begin multiplying and getting out of control.
